COVID-19 PLAN OF ACTION

EXTENSION OF CLOSURE AND PHASED REOPENING

KIRKLIN PUBLIC LIBRARY

The Kirklin Public Library recognizes that it has obligations to staff and patrons to provide a safe environment in the event of this outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19).  The Library needs to plan, not panic.

This Plan of Action is to be used in conjunction with our Pandemic Policy.

When reopening is feasible, these openings will be phased in to protect both the community and staff while providing useful and necessary services.

PHASE 1 – CLOSED*

  • Library is closed to the public
  • Director only works; if staff are asked to work they will work alone on specific projects for a scheduled amount of time

PHASE 2 – CLOSED May 11th-May 25th

  • Library is closed to the public
  • Building will be staffed on certain days that the Director and Board see fit.
  • 1 staff member will be assigned to work the library checking materials in, shelving, processing, removing décor, program planning, and assisting in curbside pickup.
  • The Director will provide fax service, assist with curbside pickup and emergency printing at the library on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12-5.

PHASE 3 – ROTATED OPENING – ESSENTIAL SERVICES May 26th-July 6th

  • The library will be open 2 days a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:00 to 5:00.
  • The Library will be staffed by 2 staff members.  There will be no more than 10 people in the facility at one time. Each patron may use the library for a maximum of 30 minutes.
  • No in-person Library programs will be offered at this time.
  • The Program Room will not be available for use.
  • Patron services available will include materials check out, holds, copies, faxes, computer use.  (Computers will be moved to allow for social distancing.)
  • Patrons may use WIFI, but adhere the 6 foot rule to allow for distancing.
  • Staff will work checking materials in and out, generating holds, copies, faxing, and printing.  Only very basic technology help will be provided.

PHASE 4 – WEEKLY OPENING – ENHANCED ESSENTIAL SERVICE July 6th

  • The Library will be open Monday and Friday 12-5; Tuesday and Thursday 10-5.
  • Staff will work regularly assigned number of hours during the libraries open hours.
  • The Program Room will not be available for use.
  • No in-person Library programs will be offered at this time.
  • No count of patrons in facilities will be monitored.
  • Evergreen Indiana will be available for public.
  • Patron services available will include materials check out, holds, copies, faxes, computer use.
  • Patrons may use WIFI, but adhere to the 6 foot rule to allow for social distancing. 

PHASE 5 – ENHANCED SERVICES Date Unknown

  • The Library will be open regularly schedule hours, 6 days a week.
  • Staff will work regularly assigned number of hours during the libraries open hours.
  • The Program Room will be available for use by the public.
  • No count of patrons in the library will be monitored.
  • No in-person Library programs will be offered at this time.
  • Evergreen Indiana services will be available for public.
  • Patron services available will include materials check out, holds, copies, faxes, computer use.
  • Patrons may use WIFI.

PHASE 6 – RETURN TO PREVIOUS SERVICE MODEL

* – Fees for copies and fax services are suspended during these phases

Kirklin Public Library Reopening Safeguards

Employee Health Screening Process

– All Kirklin Public Library employees are required to take their temperature at home before reporting to work at the library.

– They will report to the Director their status of the following questions:

  • Do you have fever?
  • Do you have a cough?
  • Do you have other symptoms of COVID-19?

– They will not report to work in the building if they are feeling unwell or have symptoms.

Enhanced Cleaning

– Library Materials

  • Library materials will be quarantined for 24 hours when returned by a customer
  • After the quarantine period, materials will be cleaned before being returned to the shelves or requested by another customer.

– Frequently Used Surfaces

  • All frequently used areas will be cleaned after each transaction.

Compliance with Social Distancing

– All library employees will maintain a 6 ft. distance at all time

– Contactless transactions will be conducted with the public including pick-up service, drive-up service, and online and phone reference.

Personal Hygiene/Ability to Wash Hands

– All library employees are required to wear masks when in the library.

– All library employees may wear gloves when handling materials.

– All library employees are required to practice frequent hand washing
